Your Questions, Answered

  • The pursuit of joy in the philanthropic sector- a joy rooted in equity, justice, and liberty. It’s a reminder that philanthropic investment in joy is strategic, impactful, and necessary, especially in these chaotic times.

As an institution we are a consulting firm and philanthropic infrastructure organization.

  • Because I needed it. While I’ve always aimed to uplift joy as a priority in my work, I needed a more explicit call for it.

And I knew the sector needed it too. Between the heaviness and negativity of our sector, and all of the dissent we’re seeing, there is positivity and joy still here and we need a centralized place to uplift it, and to remind us to prioritize it.

  • Nope. PhilanthroJoy was designed with context in mind.  The pursuit and priority of joy is more relevant now than ever. Yes, the world feels like it’s on fire. But joy isn’t some ancillary luxury- it is core to the solution. Throughout history, joy has been prioritized as a resistance strategy. Joy has been an effective strategy for democracy and against authoritarianism. We need joy to keep doing the work. We need joy to center our shared humanity.

And we need targeted, strategic joy for greater impact as a philanthropic sector.

  • To uplift the importance of joy in the philanthropy sector. To help you imbed and implement joy as a strategy in your giving and operations.

  • It looks like philanthropy teams having joyful reflection sessions at the end of a big project. It looks like a post-grant award party where grantees can celebrate, reflect, connect, and be appreciated. It looks like major philanthropy conferences full of joyful connection spaces. It looks like restorative joyful retreats funded by philanthropy investments. It looks like spaciousness to plan ahead, to ideate, to dream, from a place of abundance and not fear.

It also looks like directly addressing the things that are obstructing joy. It looks like having the honest conversations and doing the reparative work to get back to authentic joy.

  • If you feel called to it, if the message is speaking to you, then it’s for you.  It’s an opportunity to reflect and realign, and to ensure your work is rooted in joy for strategic impact.
